engine hatch wont open

Default engine hatch wont open

tried to open the engine cover i could hear the electric moter but no movement in cylinders tried to pick up cover by hand and work the switch still didnt work any ideas on trouble shooting

Most boats should have a way into the engine bay (just enough for your hand or so). My boats have a removable pin so you never get caught in that situation. I would look for that, then open up the bay, and see if the cylinder actuates with no load on it at all. Might just be time for a new one.

Advice depends on whether the hatch rams are hydraulic or screw-type.

As has been mentioned, there should be pins on one or both (if they are hydraulic) rams, and if you can pick up the hatch high enough to pull the pins, you can then get it open and diagnose it easier.

2 people to lift the hatch slightly, a third to reach in to disconnect the retaining pin on the ram and a 2x4 piece of lumber to prop the hatch open. Can you do this yourself? Possibly, but if anything went wrong that cover is VERY heavy.
