supercharger question

I know that my 330s are not the best candidate for blowers, however I am tempted by a good deal on some b&m 174 blower setups. Is there any chance that my engines can handle some small boost? The engines are very healthy and have around 250hrs on them. Anyone have any experience with this?

I think you'd be ok to run 3-4psi.

that is my plan 3-4 psi not a lot of wot running. Just looking for a little more.

I know a guy on his 4th year of a 330hp with 177 blower. He is even running a rect port intake (most of the blower intakes are rect port) on his peanut port heads.

11 mph gain, still going strong at 5 psi

Was the blower the only change he made? I have 454 mags and am going to put on hawk 525sc setups(weiand 177's/holley 800dp/oval port intake) in a cig bullet. Next season pull motors and cam swap.

Not the only change, he switched to an electric fuel pump set up, and MSD ignition. The 330hp is a low compression engine, no the best set up but it is working!

I added two 177s to my 500HP carb engines a few years back, that is a closer set up to your 454 mags. We did blower cams, nickerson mod holley cabs (awesome!) and high volume electric fuel pumps. MSD Marine billet distr and ign boxes.

I am no expert but, I would highly recommend adding a fuel pressure gauge to your dash, water pressure as well. Boost is fun to look at, but hardly ever varies

How did your set up with the HP500 and a 177 perform hp wise? I have 177 on 468's and really thought they were too small for that much less 502's. Im interested to here a real world story here. Thanks

Mine had merlin heads, never dynoed but guessing they made about 600hp with 5 lbs of boost. Huge improvement over stock 500's

If I did it again I would add chillers, or go to 250 blowers. Those little blowers at that rpm added some serious heat, so much that I never ran more than 30 degrees of timing. I could see a big drop off in power after hard runs, and on hot and humid days.

The noise those little monsters made was sick, kind of annoying after a while.

I also had the old style tensioner, which sucked, you want the snout mounted one.

Make sure to relocate the temp senosor to the intake, I left mine on the thermostat housing relcator and lost an impeller. The heat does not convect up to the relocated housing fast enough, I lost an engine because of this.

I had 177's on my 468's. Then went to 250's. Gained some speed. Now going to 420's, hoping to gain more. The little blowers are cool, but have their limits. In my opinion, for a mildly built 454, they are great. Once you get into higher boost, higher engine rpm, longer duration cams, etc, they don't meet the demand.

Basically, I think they are great for a extra 100-150HP over what the 454 would make N/A.

Those were some nice engines where did you get them
