Add another nut to it, if it will fit. Then back out the first nut into the second nut. They will "lock" and the stud will turn out like a bolt. Simple. Not sure if you have any available threads for the second nut though.

Just drain out the quart of oil and remove the cover for christs sake! Why risk doing some damage to the cover or drive then only need to remove the cover anyway?

FYI, I have a set of easy out "sockets". Would have worked perfectly for what you were asking. They work like an easy out, but it's a socket with kind of reverse spiral inside. You just pick the size that slips on to the stud, as you turn it out, the spiral grips tighter. If you have a nut rounded off, they work for that too, if fact thats what they are made for, but works great on studs too. Only thing, it will screw up the threads on the stud, but in this case you weren't going to use it again anyway.

Thanks - I just saw those the other day. I need a set for my box, no doubt.
