Hey guys. I am looking at a new sound system for my 1996 22 and looking for ideas that people have tried. It has a closed hull so I am thinking 2 subs under the seat there are currently 2 speakers on each side and possbibly a pair of speakers in the engine compartment so when we are stopped I can open it. Any ideas?

Speakers in the engine compartment is a great idea!! I would just worry about the heat breaking down the glue. Of course I haven't looked into the heat resistance of the glue or even the average temp of the engine compartment of a boat after a long idle. I'm doubt it would really be much of a significant issue considering temps inside cars reach 100000000 degrees plus with the windows closed and auto speakers hold up just fine. Wish I could be more help but it sounds like a fun project. Post some pics if you wind up with speakers in the engine compartment. I would like to see how you make that work.

I have the same boat and have two speakers mounted in the side panels (rear ones with cup holders). I then mounted two more on a carpeted board the I put in front of each captains chair. The boards makes a 45 out of the corner of the 90 degree for the cuddy opening.

My boat has what looks like a nice anchor storage marked off in the tip, but I have no hatch. I made another board, carpeted and installed to 12" subs in it. The boards wall off the little area in the very tip of the bow in the cuddy. No matter where I put subs they were taking up precious storage space for me. This area was unused wasted space so rather than cuttiung in a hatch it is a sub box now. It works great with the cuddy adding to the sound.
