old fuel tank

Hi everyone, I have a late 80’s chaparral villain 111 with 454. This boat comes and goes sometimes up to 3years all covered up in the barn. Hopefully this year with some tlc I should have her sea worthy again. I figure I should start right at the bottom and work up starting with the 65 gal fuel tank. I pumped out all the old gas 3 years ago then added 10 gal of fresh (just to keep some gas in however now is old also) So I figure I have 4 options… Replace tank approx $600.00 with a poly one, R&R the old one and see about getting it reconditioned, replace with a new maybe aluminum one, or gust treat existing adding new fuel and keeping some extra fuel filters on hand?? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated Thanks Ken

It's almost a 30 year old tank. I would replace it if the time is right. Don't know about having one "reconditioned"? Didn't know they did that. They are either bad or good in my world. If an off the shelf plastic tank would work I would go that way.

Thanks I am pretty sure thats the way to go.

Where would I even start to get custom fuel tanks?

I googled OEM boat fuel tanks and came up with quite a few. Looks like some you can send in the dimensions for custon. Mine is encased with some fiberglass strngers across that I will need to cut out first.

IMCO in California is the premier gas tank fabricator. They are an OSO advertiser.

Or take it to a radiator shop and they can clean and weld them to like new condition, and then pressurize them for no leaks. My 100 gal tanks were $150 each. If there metal tanks they can put a rubberized lifetime coating in there, I did it before on a truck I restored.
