Converting Single Lever Shifter/Throttle to Dual Shifter/Throttle?

Anyone done this? My 96 Baja has the standard side mount Mercruiser shifter.

I'd like to convert it to a dual lever shifter/throttle offshore control.

Ran across this neat little mounting pod that looks like it will work perfect for my application.

My question is, how should I mount the pod? I assume I'll need the 33 style cables as well. What kind of snags or problems am I looking at attempting this conversion?

Thanks

I did mine last year, but mine mounted in the same cut-out.

Yes, you will need new cables.

The biggest obstacle I ran into was cable routing under the dash. Since the cables came off of the controls at a different angle and length, I had to cut a new access hole to route the cables without binding them.

I've never seen anyone use the side mount plate in the attachment. It seems to me there would be a good deal of fabrication work to make it look nice.

A pic of your current mount may help with suggestions.

Thanks for the reply, here is a pic of the setup I have. (not my boat but only shot I could find on the net)

I have no personal experience with them, but I ran across these the other day. Might make for an easy swap.

Yes, saw those too but I'd rather do it with the standard controls.

I think there would be quite a bit of fabrication involved to make it look nice.

If you need a twin stick throttle set up let me know. I have a set that I bought off an OSO member and didn't use. $200.00 + the ride. Let me know.

If you are thinking of doing all the fabrication for this swap have you thought about manual indicators for the drive and or tabs to finish it out? that would give a more offshore look & add reliability to know where your drive/tabs are, my experience with bajas electric indicators are that they are junk & unreliable. jmho, Randy

Did you ever follow through with this conversion?
