Hynautic steering help
Hey guys I just bought a old 24 pantera. It has hynautic external steering on a bravo drive. H50 helm, pressure canister, and twin K5 rams. It's in great working order BUT take 10 turns lock to lock with this combo. I can't believe this system is on this boat. It's very hard to drive to say the least. It's tight, stable, goes straight, but just doesn't turn. Lol.
What is the the most cost effective (Cheapest) way to get the system do do under 6 or 5 turns. I think 3 1/2 won't be perfect. I saw a chart that says I can use a H41 helm. Almost 1,000 bucks, I was also told to use Capilano helm pump, part # HH5275 also 1,000 bucks. Any ideas for something much cheaper? |
Maybe try to find a nice used Capilano 1275V. It has an adjuster knob on the bottom and you can vary the turns to your driving style and/or conditions on the fly.

The h50 is for a single outboard front ram and a really old style helm pump compared to teleflex seastar helms . A sea star 2.4 would be better but still too small for those rams. If you have the plastic hoses they will expand and give you spongy steering. You need a good helm and aeroquip type hose.

Yeah, they come up used occasionally. I have an H42 in mine and its great! Just google them on Ebay, kijiji etc. One will come up eventually.
