Bravo Exhaust block off plate seal...is there one?

I had a bunch of salt/corrosion build up around the exhaust block off plates on my inner transom assemblies. I pulled them off today and there was no seal, or gasket, or silicone, or anything.

It was just metal to metal. Should there not be a seal there?

I thought that the same seal that you would use on the y-pipe if you had thru hub exhaust would be there? Yes? No?

i posted a pic of the seal I was expecting to find, is this not used?

yes there should be an o ring seal ,and a lot of silicone just to be safe

That is what I thought but there was no groove for the seal so I was not positive. I thought silicone for sure though!

Should be a groove in the transom assembly to hold the o-ring you have pictured. If all was good, you shouldn't need silicone, that's what the o-ring is for. :)

when u install the new oring, use a little bellows adhesive to hold it in place,it makes the job a lot easier.

i got my nova originally because of those block-off plates. they rot through, sinking the boat. any boat with serious salt time should have those plates replaced when engine is out. they look fine from inside boat, but that pic shows how they rot. i would use never-sieze on the bolts. loctite on bolts that rust in anyway scares me...
