Default Why is my safety lanyard wired all the way to the back of the boat?

I am trying to clean up the spaghetti wiring on my boat and I found that when Wellcraft wired in the safety lanyards, they ran the wires all the way to the back of the boat near to where the boat harness plugs into the engine harness. The original ignition system was a points distributor but was converted over to a complete MSD system. I think the right way to rewire it is to use the lanyard switch to break the ignition circuit by the ignition switch. The lanyard switch has a NO and a NC wires. has anyone else found that their lanyard harness goes all the way to the back of the boat? Any ideas why?

Wiring harness already run in the boat. Its easier to hook two connections to the motors points then to deal with the dash.
When I re-do my boats I always run to the key. Just a waste of wire to run it to the back.
