engine hesitation

My '96 Fever 29 is not getting on plane as fast when I give it all the throttle from a dead stop. Once the boat is moving it seems to respond just fine. I am also able to reach top speed. Any suggestions as to where I should start looking to gain some power back?

single engine and 29' boat...giving it full throttle is not a good idea,,that is the fastest way to kill the outdrive..they are not designed to be treated like this, its not a drag car so go easy on it..ease into it 3000 max until your on plane then your good to go but just dont put the stick all the way down rite off the bat...what is your engine size?

I'm not sure why it wouldn't be coupled to an out drive that was of appropriate size. It is the blue 500 mercrusier.

Well that's good to know. I guess I shouldn't be driving it like my zx10r. How do you get up onto plane faster?

Let me guess, this is your first boat? Shrink the boat or up the power and you'll still have to ease up on the stick. You do realize that the hull needs to push all that water out of the way so that it can climb up on top of it right. Unload all the crap off of the boat and lighten it up as much as possible will help a little. Learning how to properly trim the drive will also help.

Yeah I am new to boats. This is the first boat I have ever even been on. The problem with all the advice so far is that last month it was not acting this way. I understand that it needs a second or two to push the water out of the way, but it is taking substantially more time than it did previous. I will stop giving it full power to get up on plane. And someone explained using the tabs to help the boat get on plane at low speeds. Other than that someone told me to replace the fuel filter and plugs...

Has the boat been sitting in the water and getting scum on the bottom????

You'll stop doing the full throttle starts after you blow up the outdrive, and have to shell out a few grand to rebuild it.
