Which 496 kit

Blew the motor Sunday, so planning on rebuild wondering which
Brand Stroker kit would be best? Or reputable

Sorry to hear that! Wish I had some advice but this is out of my area of expertise! I'll be following this thread though because I'm planning a rebuild in a couple years and "love a good stroking".:thankyouthankyou:

That sucks!!!! If your already going 502, might as well go 540:evilb:

Eagle and scat make a good forged kit for what you need.

Maybe if you are building a 700hp monster but mine has been good for a couple seasons now.
As for cost, you will have to goggle that. Thats what i do. Find what parts and numbers needed and then buy them from the cheapest sellers. I've bought crank, rods and pistons all from different sellers before because of being that much of a price difference between sellers.

pantera232 09-09-2012 08:50 PM

What kind of hp did this build make?

drivrswntd 09-10-2012 11:10 AM

Looks like that makes 2 of us. From what I see arent you better off going 489 .03 over instead of 496 in case you ever needed to rebuild again??

What kind of #'s does this produce & at what rpm's?

Rookie 09-10-2012 08:49 PM

I would stay away from Eagle cranks. Know a few friends that have had good luck with Scat up to 650hp.

articfriends 09-10-2012 09:09 PM

When you start getting into 4.25+" stroke cranks Cast should be avoided because the amount of webbing or crank rod journal overlap starts to be critical, even at 600 hp IF it were to detonate it could still break with no warning, your only talking a few hundred dollars more, Smitty

In my Nova 19 my numbers wouldn't make any sense to you but you will end up with about 500 safe HP.

pantera232 09-12-2012 05:04 PM

So i found a 454 short block at daddysos marine in pompano near me. bored out .30 with some domed piston and a stroker crank, still getting the details, but it does have a steel crank studded and aftermarket rods. When i asked him if it was a 496 rotating assembly he said know just stroker crank. So how does that compare??
From there he said he would warranty the build and throw brand new gm rectangular port heads on it,and a gm 502 cam with aftermarket oil pan. He is telling me 10.5:1 compression i told him multiple times i want a 500 plus hp motor... what do you pro's out there think..
I have a .6 lift bob m cam that i wanted him to install but he wants to stay from that and again put in the 502gm cam...... Please give me some feedback Thanks

Not saying that it is definitely bad, but heard some bad things about that place in the past.

pantera232 09-13-2012 11:32 AM

I get a 1 year warranty and all parts are new, heads, cam, lifters etc

bigboat28 09-13-2012 08:20 PM

bigboat28 09-13-2012 08:22 PM
