540 questions?

Im going to freshen/build up my procharged 502's in my scarab and had a few questions.#1 What is a good 540 kit for marine use. I have used callies and scat stuff on cars in the past but not sure for marine stuff. #2 What is a good blower cam for this ci. On the cam choice I want it to sound rowdy at idle. #3 My exhaust is stainless marine, i think its there short riser kit. Is this exhaust going to be too small for the new engines? Thanks in advance!

I had bad luck with an Eagle kit, the cranks machine work was horrible, had to get a brand new crank turned .020 on the rods to fix the hour glass shaped rod journals and fix the over stroke and under stroke of some of the throws, the H beam rods are good and the JE pistons were good. My machinist checks all Eagle cranks and says he hasn't found one yet spot on, he's very maticulous. Don't get me wrong he like EAGLE, he say's they are nice cranks BUT the machine work SUCKS, you can read that on other forums also, But who knows maybe some builders are pickier than others on the tolerances they like. After that kit left a bad taste in my mouth, the next kit I bought a few months later was a SCAT **WOW** spot on brother, even my machinist was impressed. All these cranks I bought were 4340 4.25 stroke cranks, so they were not the cheap ones. The SCAT PRO I beam rods were also spot on. Once again just my 2 cents

Call up Ohio Crank....they make some really nice components and awesome prices. I am running their forged crank....lil cheaper than Scat and twice as good quality.

Really depends on budget. I upgraded my internals to Callies Magnum crank and Oliver rods. It's a great combo.

As for cam, call Bob Madara from Marine Kinetics that is on here for a custom grind. 585-654-8583

I would invest in a good set of heads before going the stroker route.

+1000. Bob is a great guy. I am probably going to call him for a new grind on my 540 in the spring.

Let's bring this back up on the knowledge of the current up to date manufacturing of the crank companies and the experience of the engine builders on this forum that use them day in day out.

Compare lunati voodoo to Callies compstar to Scat to Molnar and K1 s.

Then at what level do you need to move up to the Callies Dragonslayor, Magnum or Howards Pro Max which is machined by Callies.

Has anyone heard about the Midwest industries Billet cranks that Competition products is selling?
