Hit a wall...in my project.
 

I have returned to my Formula 255 restoration after hitting a wall so to speak with it a few months ago.

For a while it just seemed like everytime I thought I was making progress some bull $hit detail would jump up and stop me. I guess with these involved projects we each have to find a way to break thru the "wall". What helped me was reading thru the threads here on OSO. After a while I realized I wasn't the only one that ever had $hit happen!!!

In the end I think that's what makes each one of these projects special in it's own way...the ability to over come the adversity and negatives...and keep moving ahead with it.

Having a second, running, functioning, reliable boat is the key to taking on resto projects. You have to have that to remind you, why you are doing what you are doing on the one under construction.

Also, don't sweat the details. You have to know when something is good enough to move on. We all have our ideas of perfection and at some point you have to accept that it will never be 'perfect' to be able to move on to the next step and keep the project moving. Then regret not spending more time to get it perfect when you look back on it later. :lolhit:

At least that was what I learned from my experience....

OMG man, I can relate!!! I have been at that point the last month or so with my project and I feel like it will never get done. Just trying to push on through and finish it up.

Stay strong and persistent, it will be worth it in the end, or so that's what everyone tells me :angry-smiley-038:

Went through that last winter putting the hawk together. For some reason I decided to do it all over again this year! Doh!

LoL...going through the saaaame thing to....owned this boat for a year and a half, NEVER had it in the water since i owned it...started with a quick paint job and engine refresh , and snow balled into full resto, with 509's whipple charged..... well the has been painted once, and the guy that did it the first time did a $hit job, so I'm repainting it myself (what i should have done in the first place)
so its now ready for the next paint job (next week) changing paint sceme, and going to newer cig logos, the motors were finished yesterday, redid the whole trailer, and many times i wanted to through in the towel, but when one piece gets done and i move to the next it keeps me moving foward, and you got to know when its good enough, time to move on to the next thing, take it from me (perfectionist) if you try to make everything perfect it will never get done......Joe

and when you get them done you know what you got, you could go buy someone elses older boat and hear how they did this and that, to find out they did it half azz and you got to redo it again.

I know its coming!!! I have not hit the "wall" yet but after reading a ton to threads it seems like everyone jumps right it 100 mph then slows to idle after a few setbacks.

I'm glad there it a DIY thread to know there are a lot of members feeling the same way!!

Keep at it, I've done a boat a year for last three years, so I feel your pain. All I can say is I'm done and happy with the 292. Nest summer I'm only enjoying the boat- No more boat projects for me.....

Been there and done that. I truly understand. My 4-6 week, $2500 project morphed into a 2 year, 50k + ordeal that never seemed to stop. The good thing is that I did get to the end and now I have a boat that I really like and does just about everything that I want or need. Now if I can just find another 8-10 MPH!!!
