LCD TV mounting and wiring
 

how is everyone mounting LCD Tvs and wiring them in their boats? standard wall mount and wire in a converter?

You can get a 12v and not have to worry about an inverter.

No problem....I did all the research already and decided I won't install on in the PQ.

Curious, I assume you want one in the AT? Why? Will you overnight often? Will the marina have cable hook up? Will you take a laptop to hook up to the TV to watch stuff?

These are some of the questions I asked myself among others and decided just to take my iPad along when I overnight. We did about ten nights last summer.

For the kids: Under $200.. 19" with DVD built in. Plugs into outlet. Standard wall mount

Being that we overnight atleast 75% of the time i t would come in handy with the kids..not really for watching TV but for them to be able to watch movies. Id rather take a chance on a $200 TV getting broken instead of my $1500 Mac. Lol.

Take a close look at the power adapter that comes with the TV that you are purchasing. I have found that most TV's in the 19" - 22" range, some with DVD built the ac box converts the voltage to 12V DC. I have cut the tv plug end off wired two directly to the 12 v system of boats (fused of course) and they work great! Both TV's were purchased at Target.

Also I use standoffs to mount instead of a wall mount. Make a pattern of the blind nuts on the back of the tv using card board. Transfer that to the wall and drill out. Use standoffs (very thick washers) to space the tv from the wall and through bolt to the other side using flat washers for support. Clean look and no extra stress because the center mass of the tv is close to the wall, which is great for waves.

i mounted mine in same location as ICDEDPPL. Used a standard home mount that can rotate the tv 90 deg to keep out of way when not in use.

i have an ac inverter so i just used the standard ac cord, cut the end off & then ran 3wire cable from my ac panel. i probably could have just done the 12v dc wiring, but since its a 22" Samsung & i couldnt find enough info to know for sure, so did what i knew would work & not fry the tv.

never really used it, mainly installed for the kids. but hell now that they have kindles & ipads, its easier for them to just stream their content to their device instead of bringing dvd's.

now i want to find a way to allow them to stream their content from device to tv & use the audio system. but im a geek by trade.

I see the Jenson 22"tv weighs only 10.5#. But if that is hanging from 4 mounting points or a swivel bracket, is that going to break and go bouncing around the cabin after a few times out in rough water?
