Anyone have success with painting over powdercoat for Mercury K-Planes?

I've got a set that the powdercoat is still in place, but essentially peeled away from the plates.

Just wondering if painting is a better option than powdercoating? Seems like once the powder gets nicked, it's all down hill.

They need to be blasted, re coated in powder IMO. Paint would flake ever more so then the powder once chipped.
