pulling gimbals....what to seal with?

Pulling my gimbals to rebuild. When I replace them what do I seal the transom with? Is there a mercury part # for a specific seal?

Paul mercury doesn't use anything . Just the seal . I usually
Put a bead of 3 m 5200 just on the edge of the foam seal .
If you want to ever remove them use 5400

New foam seal and a little bit of bellows adhesive in the corners to keep it in place during re-install.

Hey bro.....

I use Boat Life from west marine. I put the cork on dry, razor the overhang off, then put a bead of this around the perimeter after putting painter tape about 1/8" to 3/16" on the transom and outer transom bracket. Run a 10mm socket around the bead for a smooth look and peel the tape from both sides right away....

Not a drop comes in!

Ditto. A few days before you are installing the assembly you'll want to apply the 4200 to the transom assembly groove. Then install the foam oring seal in the groove holding it in place with masking tape over it, then allow to cure. You'll never get the transom assem installed with the seal staying in the groove if you don't do this.
