Belt Tension Gauge
Who sells a decent one at a reasonable price? Or, is there a good "laymans" method of adjusting a serpentine belt?
This is why I ask..... I changed out my water pump impellor. Went out for a ride, according to my mechanical gauge and Smartcraft, my pressure was where it should be. Rode approx. 10 miles. I got on it on the way back to the ramp, 525efi, 5100 RPMs, I was watching the tach and not the pressure. I came off plane and my pressure was real low, 2 psi, (normally 3-4 psi at idle) and a lot of steam. I increased the idle and the pressure came back up. Also when I went home I flushed and things were normal. I'm wondering if the serpentine belt was slipping at high RPMs? I could just be paranoid and just caught some trash on the drive, my sea strainer was clean. Anyway, I want to test the belt tension to rule that out. |
I don't see the issue with the belt, this seems to me to be maybe an water pump impeller issue and also an oil weight issue. What weight oil are you running and when was the impeller replaced, also how many hors are on the motor?

The impellor is brand new. It seemed to be fine until I got into the upper RPMs. That's why I was thinking the belt could be the issue. The belt does come into play when changing the impellor.

put some belt dressing on it makes it grab better, don't laugh but on cars with a belt that squells or slips ive used pancake syrup, ever get that **** on you it sticks to everything and will make belts grab.
