454 vs 502 build up?

Disregard. I'm over thinking this... Gonna stick with what Bob Madera says and do a full build up of my 454(462) with forged internals and AFR 265's. thx

Good choice goin with Bob. Me and my brother just built a 454 mag based on his parts and recommendations and that thing is an absolute BEAST! Can't go wrong with Bob.

What did you put into your build based on Bob's recommendations and what kind of power did it make.

I have built several stroker 496s with Bob's help and cams. Even my brand new engines have Mandra cams.:cool-smiley-011:

X2. I would like to hear what you used even though bob is lining my build up. I really did consider the 502, but came into extra cash for the AFR's with inconel upgrade, so this 462 should kick the crap out of most 502's after bob is done. And I feel better with more modern forged parts and all ARP vs Mercruiser parts. They may be "good enough" in the MAG motors, but extra insurance is never a bad thing.

I used the stock short block and Bobs cam. AFR 265 heads, scorpion rockers, all ARP fasteners, stainless marine exhaust and risers, had ECM recalibrated. I used the stock EFI manifold and plenum/throttle body even though its costing me some power, wanted to keep the EFI. Before I could barely turn the 23 pitch prop, now I have to pull the throttle back to keep RPMs down. I can turn 5400 RPM with the boat fully loaded, fuel and people. I'm not sure horsepower numbers but I would guess around 500,maybe a little more. Wasn't cheap but worth every penny in my opinion. Now I need a bigger prop!
