Just went thru this with mine. I ended up going with paint. We'll see how it goes. My thought behind it was that paint is easier to touch up if it gets chipped, and hopefully won't flake like the powder does.

I had mine powdercoated over the winter. I have turn-downs that face directly at the tabs. The original finish turned gray from the exhaust water, but the pc is holding up great. The only downside is that with pc you see the rough surface of metal. Paint will have a smoother look.

Go with paint.

My original black powdercoat was looking terrible. I took them into my buddy's body ship and had them painted along with a lower; and they look fantastic several seasons later.

Paint for the reasons stated above...

What kind of paint? Enamel, Base Coat, Imron?

I used the Merc Phantom Black in a spray can over a couple of coats of zinc primer. Turned out pretty good.

Powder coat does not hold up to the sun. The finish will dull out in no time. There is always anodizing 2. But Imron would be my choice...

Has anybody tried POR 15 they say it is rock hard.

^^^^ POR 15 is def some tuff stuff, atleast it is when put onto rusted areas. I would opt for powder, from a good coater, not the do it your selfer.

Por 15 is an excellent paint but should not be exposed to the sun. Unless they have something new out... Works great under the hood ect.

My drives are powder coated and have been on the boat since 2007 and outside all summer and shine like the day I put the on

Had my plates done this spring for $75. For both stripped and powder coat. You can't buy quality stopper and paint for that.
