What upgraded Oil Pan for 575sci?

Just like the question says...bang for buck, what oil pan should I upgrade to on a gen VI 502 (575sci)? Anything to look out for?

Hardin has a nice 10 qt for about $600

Thebossbultsma 09-12-2013 12:19 PM

I went with a nice Dooley 14 gt offshore style pan. To help with oil temp and get a few more hrs out of the oil changes.

But make sure to put the starter on before oil pan or on before u set motor in boat. If u don't its a ***** to get the second bolt on the starter.

how will these pans keep your oil temp down?

tcwcar 09-12-2013 09:29 PM

Well that's the way Dustin at whipple explained it to me, the more oil the longer it take to heat up, just like putting a cup of water on the stove will heat up fast than 2 cups of water, than we have the luxury of cooling it back down with oil coolers, that's the way he explained it to me Mike, sound good...plus I got $700 a piece pans, for $200 each, and Mike if it doesn't help keep the temp down please explain what is the advantage of going with a bigger pan? why does everybody go with more oil? not trying to be an a** just asking...

One reason to go with larger pan is extended high rpm running .Without enough capacity you can end up with most of your oil up top and actually suck air into oil pump. I have used Hardin 14 quart pans on several builds through the years and and have found the quality to be good.

a pan with more capacity will not keep oil cooler, but it will take longer to get the oil to operating temp.it is the oil cooler,s job to remove the heat from the oil.the advantage of a larger capacity pan is to keep the oil pump pickup submerged in oil during long hard runs.it is a common misconception that a larger pan keeps the oil cooler.

One thing I learned with transmissions, higher capacity pan takes longer to get hot, also takes a lot longer to cool back down.

I think I might go with this one, I cannot fit a real deep pan. Dont have mine available to measure but I think my stocker is 8qt...this one is 11+ filter.

As far as oil temp, I would venture to say mine would never have a problem. I have AFR aluminum heads, Whipple cooler, and rune a 120* stat.

not sure what boat you have but you might have problems with that on a mercruiser package, the sea pump wont clear the pan.i think you will need a pan like tcwcar has,a marine specific pan that is made to clear things like the sea pump, and the motor mounting plate with hi perf mounting system.

Thanks Mike for the info, I am no expert on this stuff but I do ask a lot of questions from people like Dustin at whipple and Bob Mandrell, at Marine K. and when I got my motors done, I asked what parts I need to get for the power range I wanted to be in and also to help prolong the life of the motors. I know you know what your taking about when it comes to this stuff I read tons of your posts, and I value your knowledge and expertise....thanks Joe

The boat is a Profile cat and I have the offshore style performance mount. The problem is that the pan has to fit between the center pod...I dont think a pan like twcars will. Also with the stock pan it is pretty tight between the deep end of the pan and the bottom of the pod.

JRider 09-13-2013 12:26 PM

Not sure any of the pans I looked at will work. The cool fuel system mounts under the pan so the stocker might just go back on

once had the same problem with a awsome single engine cat,we got a pan similar to the one you are looking at and modified it to fit.i had a 26 ft american offshore cat[centerpod boat] and a large marine pan fit.it was a teague 12 qt pan.

vintage chromoly 09-13-2013 01:54 PM

I have a practically new canton marine 10 qt pan of you are interest.

Pm me if you want.
