Winterizing Carb question
 

Looking for opinions.
1. Should I run all the fuel out of my Holley carb before putting the boat up for the winter?
2. I trailer the boat so I use gas with ethanol, is it better to run that out and fill up at a marina with non ethanol gas + fuel stabalizer for the winter?
3. I drain the block, then run the antifreeze through, should I THEN disconnect the water hoses? I have not disconnected them previously after filling engine and manifold with antifreeze.
4. Ive used the pink RV/Boat AntiFreeze for years, but have read on here that some dont trust it. Whats a better alternative?
5. Every year I worry about critters (mostly mice) getting in the boat and making a mess. What are you guys doing to deter them?

I have been using e-10 gas for years and every year I try to run my boat down as low as I can go then put a couple hundred dollars of non ethanol in it before my last ride of the season. Use stabil and the heat water remover in the yellow bottle. Been doing this for 7 or 8 years and have had no problems with my Rochester quad carbs

If you do not have a chance to run her down to empty and are forced to keep ethanol in her for the winter star brite makes an additive called star tron and is supposed to help with ethanol probs. I own a gas delivery company and have to say its kind of a catch 22 with ethanol because yes the ethanol does destroy our rubber gaskets faster but when one of our trailers is left empty for an extended time the rubber drys up and shrinks causing leaks. As for your worry about critters I put some moth balls in the bottom of a 2 liter soda bottle and put it on the floor of my boat. You will have to deal with the smell of moth balls for a week after you take the shrink off but it beats the hell out of mice making a mess out of your boat.

Dryer sheets will keep mice and spiders out of the boat.

+1 on the mothballs, haven't had a mouse turd in 30 years with this old school method. I remove and drain the holleys and store them indoors for the winter.

I was thinking about draining the Holley and keeping it inside! Easy to remove.

i drain mine,,al you have to do is crank the bow down and pull one of the 4 float bowl screws and id drain it into a cup..same for the rear..bow up and pull one of the bolts..i also use the moroso reusable holly plastic float bowl gasket sets..order it for spring and just change them all..

go to menards and get some damprid bags,,mice hate the smell but they smell like bounce .plus they absorb moisture..

antifreeze,,go to boat us or west marine and get their -200 below,,they also have a kit they sell to do your winterising....a small v8 takes 4 to 5 gallons to be safe..

I live in Ohio and have been winterizing boats for years. I drain everything block/exhaust dry then use the marine -200 cut by 25%. Get you plenty of protection. The pink stuff does not have much if any corrostion/rust protection. Leave all your hoses connected after your done.
For fuel I fill at least 3/4 full with highest octane you can afford them use the sta-bil (Blue) or Star Brite ethanol fuel additive. You need to make sure you add the stabalizer before you fill up so it mixes withthe fuel. Follow the direction to make sure ratio is correct too. Run the boat for 20-30 minutes and your good.
Damprid works awesome in the whole boat. I put them in a plastic or metal container in the cockpit, cabin and bilge.

If you have to use -200 degree antifreeze you should consider moving to a warmer place, like Earth. What is it even made of? Even pure ethanol will freeze at around 175 degrees

that is the burst rate..on my refractor the chit is only good for -50*,,what a scam eh! also the pink chit -32* on the refractor..their advertisement is bullchit..
