Measured an srp piston from a 540 as I tore it down today. This was actually sparked by a conversation the other night when one "engine builder" was describing the shoddy work of another saying how loose the pistons were in the bore as he measured with. A feeler gauge above the ring land with the piston in the block..... Yes measured piston to wall with a feeler gauge.... Anyway on these pistons above the top ring was .030 smaller diameter than the skirt.

Anyone that sticks a feeler gauge, from the top of the piston down to the ring is a complete -------------- IDIOT! Not even going to explain; piston barrel design.

MERRY CHRISTMAS! Thanks guys tor the info. I forgot about the skirt vs ring lands. Have anyone heard of the rear 2 cyl 7/8 loosing comp over time (a season) of hard running? I forget who mentioned it but said chevy bb have a tendency to do this? Sounds kind of crazy to me but..........All were at 170 to 150 psi but 7/8 were at 90.
