Whippleing my 500 EFI

Wanting to put a whipple kit on my 500 EFI. I'm looking for comments and suggestions doing this add on. I'm familiar with supercharging, I did my 03 Mustang 4.6l 8 PSI 505 HP VERY reliable fun car, daily driver, never any problems. Did everything but the tune. Took it to Denver and had it dyno tuned.

I'm specifically interested in the ECM tune in the kit. I would like to redo my heads, springs, valves ect. because I'm pretty sure they have never been done and have approximately 340 hrs. I would like to not get into the bottom end. If I have my heads opened up a bit I would guess that would throw the tune off ? I like the canned tune because I'm a long way from anyone that would be able to do that for me. I will be doing all the work my self except for the tune. It looks like the kit has a new electric fuel pump. Not sure if it is a return type system. I will be going with full hydraulic steering. And I already got rid of my XR drive. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Especially from people who have does this add on. Thanks in advance!

Going with the Stage 2 kit (the MOAC cooler) and wondering how people are supplying the cooler. Separate pickup or off the drive?

Few people in the country can properly tune a Merc engine. Pull the motor to build it then crate/ship it to one of a few shops that can properly dyno/tune it. Mark boos at Precision Marine near New Orleans did a pair of engine I built some years ago and did a great job.

I had a pair of 500 efi's that I turned into 509s, with stage 2 kits, I plumed the intercoolers off the drives no pump, and then I mounted a transom pickup to the seawater pumps for the motors...

505whp on a 4.6 isn't a gt. I spent a lot of money getting a m112 cobra to 540whp on e85. Granted it was a 99 to 03/04 swap but that included a .20 bore and fully forged internals. I live in ky and was born and raised in Littleton.

Complete a top end rebuild and move on unless you want to repower. The money to do it right plus a refresh could have you into some sweet all motor bbcs without the headaches.

i have installed a few,you will need to send your ecm to dustin whipple,he will install a safe tune for your combination.eddie young also sells the units and tunes them.

Theres no good way to do a 92 octane, 700+HP, turn key, smooth idling long life 502CI Marine BBC, without a blower. Go for the Whipple kit, talk to Eddie Young, and enjoy.

When I bought my whipple kit from Dustin the pcm reflash was included in the price. They sent a worksheet to fill out on engine specs to send with the computer. Being your in Colorado I would throw in elevation for good measure. If you have 300+ hrs already on the engine I would tear it down all the way for inspection at least before bolting on a bunch of hp if you want turn key operation JMO. Randy

I have to agree with Randy on this , I ran a Blown Alcohol Funnycar for years, a blower can put some strain on parts . IMO it would be piece of mind to go through it to make sure its all good. And as you know a Blower cam is a little different than a normally aspirated cam, Once again IMO I wouldn't spend a lot of time or money opening up the heads because a blower will overcome some of the flaws in a cylinder head because the fuel air charge is being forced into the cylinders instead of being pulled into them. Get a good bottom end the right cam , bolt on your blower and have fun. With the amount of hrs on your engine it would always be in the back of my mind when I opened it up will it stay together. But like I said this is just my opinion.

Mine is a 03 Mach 1 alum block, stock engine internals (forged crank, Hypereutectic pistons, not forged rods) Eaton m112 8 lbs boost 505hp at crank 438rwhp 445rwt. Car had 1568 mi. when I did the swap. It now has over 35 k of absolute trouble free miles. Bought all the stuff off ebay (blower, intercooler, pumps, injectors) from people upgrading there cobras to whipples. Spent a total of about 2600.00. on parts.

I'm pretty sure I can get a great result with my current engine.

Thanks for the great ideas! Keep them coming please. I'm thinking I want to send my heads out and have them done. Any Suggestions on who I should send them to ?
