What kind of hose to use for sea strainer?

I am planning on putting new 1 1/4" intake hoses on my boat. Mainly the hose from the transom assembly to the sea strainer ,then from the strainer to the sea pump. The ones I currently have on there are super stiff and hard to work with. I would like to have something a little more flexible . What kind of hose would you recommend?

replace with the same as what you have.it has a wire inside the outer rubber wrap to keep it from sucking shut.the sea pump has a lot of suction.

+1
New hose will be softer for a while.

+1. You need to use hard wall marine water hose to prevent it from collapsing under suction.. You really don't want anything softer. To make it easier to attach to fittings, I use hose lube that West Marine sells in a small bottle; works very well.

What about some of this style hose?

I use it every day at work with our vacuum fixtures for our CNC's. Holds 25 Hg for 16 hrs and has never failed or sucked in on it self. With the added bonus of being clear, you can see what is all being sucked into your engine :lolhit: Looks to run about $5.50 a ft for 1 1/4" ID

Is it rated for marine use and is it resistant to gasoline and oil ?

My main reason for wanting to change was to make it easier to take on and off the sea pump or strainer. It is a real bear wrestling with the rigid hose as it just doesn't give at all. I usually put a little grease on the ends where it goes on the fittings for easier removal, but even that is tough.

I have seen the clear hose 92nsx is referring to. That is pretty stiff too.

Looks like I will keep what I have, and cuss a lot when I have to take them off. :angry-smiley-038:

^^+1There is a reason Merc and others still use the same kind of hose, not because it's cheaper, it's because it works and keeps on working
