how big is the mirage? 23 and under and the alpha will hold up if you are careful with the stick. I guess first order of business is pull intake and see what ports. or pull valve cover and google head casting number. cast internals aren't so terrible until 6000 rpms. overheats over 3500, drive water pump and hose inside gimball housing. but don't waste energy porting peanut heads. buy ovals on ebay for 250 a pair or go up from there.

Don't know where u are.......but

I have an aluminum merc racing dual plane bronze lined intake, rect. Port. If the heads on that motor are 088 castings, it's peanut port. Suck for everything......even scrap.

Look here and racing junk for iron Merlin's.....308's

Based on what you said on your post #10 ,I thought you already new everything. Why ask about installing an intake...curious ...BTW ,did you ever figure out what heads you have ?

I know where there's a set of 781 BBC heads (large oval port). They are fresh on Craigslist in Rochester, NY.

I'm also a BBC guy, but in cars. BBC engines are prone to flat tappet cam failure because of the variances in the pushrods angles and the lack of zinc in oil. We wiped a lope in a 461 BBC in 5 minutes during break in....and this wasn't our first time, it was a cheap nine owner. He was warned but took the chance anyway.

From this day forward, any BBC I have will be a roller cam.

D Yes i did allude to having some working knowledge of engine's and do but as stated it is new to me....The question is simple not having previous hands on experience bolting a new automotive manifold to a marine engine i assumed it would be prudent to ask people who have done this mod and perhaps some insight so the transition is smooth..That being linkage problems or adapter's

There peanut heads and i agree on the cam type, i dont see a benefit risk reward to install a flat tappet cam with the combo this boat has.

781 aren't peanut port heads. We have them making over 650 hp in a 12.5-1 461 BBC with stock sized valves....drag car engine.

IIRC 336 are peanut port heads.

ok, the intake will bolt on. BUT; look at the size runners in the intake. look at the size of the ports. there is a great big ledge that your fuel-air mixture will hit and swirl around and disturb the airflow. acts like a speed brake on an airplane. unless you found a peanut head performer intake, which I don't know exists or not. buy a set of 781s or 049s or rect ports or better yet alum oval heads. alum will handle more compression with the same fuel and come with smaller chambers to give that higher comp without replacing pistons. and you are also taking weight outta the back of the boat. but oval intake on round ports will make you an unhappy camper.
