Used blowers Kit questions
 

What questions should I be asking when buying a set of used blower assemblies? What info should I be aware of on my BBC before I buy the blowers. My boat is new to me so I only know what I was told; 502's/500 hp carb. It used to be a blower set up based on the psi gauges in dash and water tails plumbed through transom but not sure on these motors.

its a weekend so just give folks a little time to answer. first, what are you looking for? roots style, whipple, blow thru or pull thru carb? what do you know about the engines at this time? have they been rebuilt and how many hours on them now. what power level are you looking to end up with by installing the blowers? answer some of these and it is easier to lead you in a good direction.

Make sure whatever you buy has the right intake, std deck or tall and parts are available

The hours on the blowers are a good starting point. I am referring to a roots blower. If intercooled, were they used in salt or freshwater? Size for your application and engine displacement. As stated above your engine configuration is all important for longevity. Doug

Are you sure the psi gauges on the dash aren't for water psi and not boost pressure?

I only know what I was told; 502/500hp so I need some direction as to what identification needs to found on blocks and heads? These motors are in a 90 TG so may be original 420's or replaced at some point. The hours on dash indicate 300. The blowers I am looking at are a roots style TBS. I realize I am starting backwards but thought it would be fun to blast these old motors and when they die have the induction and accessories ready for some re-power.

No, I'll look again at the gauges. I assumed blowers and forgot about water PSI. It does have sea strainers if the matters.

The blowers are for tall deck and have BC carbs. It looks like there is no way to tell what motors I have with out breaking them down or buying the regular block manifold?

Do your research. You can slap a set of blowers on your engines and they could run like crap or explode. There are a lot of different parts used in an NA engine as opposed to a blown engine. Should have a forged crank, blower pistons with proper heads and most importantly the right cam. Blowers are hard on internal engine parts. I got away from them when I built new engines. I loved the feel and sound but my NA engines get me where I want to go, just as fast and will last longer before I need to tear them down. Do the homework and do it right the first time.
