silent choice, what to do for a quick fix
OK had my mechanic look at it real quickly before he left for a while. Here's the issue, the internal flappers / diaphragms do not function properly. If I leave it open they will flapp steadily, making it sound like I'm shutting off.
Can these be removed? Just sounds brutal...any advice. thx |
You should be able to remove the levers from the actuators and wire the levers to the open position. It will be loud all the time but that will get you by until someone can look at it.

Are you talking about the rubber flappers on each side of the y-pipe itself?
|
Its the internal portion where they would swing open or closed , I typically leave switch open but I guess over time they have eroded or whatever...they just work independently now :-)...just dont know how to make it stay open until I can have it corrected . Its an eddie marine system installed.
thanks again for the advice budman |
this is the electric actuators? apparently they are all failure prone. and manufacturers like to obsolete the solenoids instead of providing replacements. I have an air operated Merc set I am trying to set up. need a 12v compressor, check valve and sol release valve. all cheap. if you could find a set of air actuators might be something to consider. another way i am considering would be engine vacuum. if I can find actuators with enough stroke and power, would be completely automatic. power comes on, lose vac, spring pulls diverters open. pull back on sticks, revs drop, vac comes up and pulls diverters closed. or get a long choke cable and pull to open, push to close. might hafta scavenge an old throttle or shift cable to get something long enough.

Yes This is the electronic actuators
