Can Headers Save Fuel?
#21
If I ran my small block 225 hours it would use over 2000 gallons of gas. At 4 dollars a gallon that's 8k. A little more than the best headers you could buy. Well unless I idled it for 225 hours haha

By them cause they're cool or cause they sound good or just to tell the wife it saves gas but as far as gas motors go have seen little to no improvement in Econ with just exhaust work. Diesels are a different story but that's a whole other can of worms

Sad, but I know people better than they know themselves.
But, whatever, I'm just the azzhole. LOL.

I can honestly say I have never once calculated fuel economy on a boat, all I know is when I get down to a 1/4 tank it is time for more. I could not rationalize spending a few grand on headers to save fuel, for performance and looks absolutely.

Hmm... I was assuming that a number of forum members had fuel flowmeters onboard. You'd have to have that and drive under controlled conditions to note the difference in FE, I'm sure.

Fuel flow meters on a boat with sbc and headers ? Extremely doubtful .
Now, on a cabin cruiser or cruiser type that goes across open water for many miles, sure....it's all about making it to your destination and/or next gas stop.
I have a question - why are you being so painfully persistant about this ?
There are easier and better ways to gain some fuel mileage.
Another example and back back to weight - running a full tank when you don't need to is a total waste of fuel efficiency ?
We all know what gas basically weights right ?
