34* @ 3000rpm's and initial timing will fall where it may . :cool-smiley-011:

OEM Mercruiser spec here is 8 degrees BTDC. That's for Gen IV, V, VI, Carb models

thanks

mine is a gen 5 carb with msd ignition, coil and distributor, does the timing stay the same regardless of using thunderbolt or msd?

My post was incomplete and you thru out a curve ball as your post said "stock 502 Mag carb version"

OEM Stock Mercruiser ignition set up on a stock Mercruiser 502 mag carb is 8 degrees BTDC at idle speed 650 rpms.

I take it you have Mercruiser and do you have any of the Mercruiser T - bolt ignition set up or is this all MSD ? IMO 8 to 10 would seem right at idle speed of 650 rpm.

Sorry I later read some other posts and realized that mine isnt actually "stock stock"
All msd coil, distributor, ignition

yes, after engine has warmed up put it in gear, then make your adjustments.a member tried to set the mixture screws at 1/2 turn out and said that is the way to do it but it is not.the idle mixture will be to lean and might cause a backfire or lean pop.
