Alternative to Mercruiser engine water pump?

I see lots of you guys are able to cross reference parts to automotive items. I think I'm going to replace my engine water pump while I'm doing my impeller. What are you guys going with? It's an 86 350.

don't use an automotive circ pump on a raw water cooled marine engine. You can google why

Jonesyfxr 07-21-2014 01:34 PM

Ok thanks. I wasn't sure if it was a possibility.

You need the marine unit for the stainless impeller and back plate.

Ok thanks!!

And the internal bearing sealing is better corrosion resistance compared to the auto side.

I had a water pump go bad and just bought the auto version and pressed the NEW bearing assembly out of the new one and installed it in the boat one. Worked perfect and never leaked.

Seems like a lot of trouble when a replacement marine pump is only 100 bucks or so.. mercury retail is 144.00

And not sure about this as for this year but the Sierra water circ for V-6 and V-8 small blocks (the same pump used) was the exact same that mercruiser used . Cheaper in price on the Sierra side.

Thanks!!^^^

That is cheaper than what a dealer can buy it for coming from Sierra and I want to say cheaper than what my distributor buys them for and they buy about 400 of them per year. Wonder how they can sell them at that price and make any money. Wonder what shipping costs are.

motor 07-23-2014 06:36 AM

makes me wonder how they actually get shipped from sierra distributer for less money than speedandcustom price .They almost have to steal them to sell em for 50.00 and make money

Jonesyfxr 07-23-2014 09:17 AM

Man that's cheap!!
