454 Bypass Help

1 Attachment(s)
I have read many forums about Bypass issues. Here is a picture of my 454 Gen 5 block. Do all I have to do is change that outside bypass to a 30lbs valve?
If anyone could help me with what needs to be done that would be great

You can get little freeze plugs. Punch the perimter corners to retain it in place.

I know it is a stupid question, but where exactly is that? I am getting ready to pull one of my motors (4th time) and wondering if mine needs this done. I have 454 Ho Chevy crate motors.
Thanks

Where the oil filter or remote oil filter mounts to the block. You probably have the 11lb bypass in used in automotive applications. I plug mine so all of my oil goes to my filter. I look at it this way, if I have a plugged filter I have worse problems than a plugged filter.

Edit: If you have 11lb not only does it bypass the filter, but also the cooler.
You having bearing problems? Friend had a fresh ZZ502 that kept taking out bearings, this was the problem.

takes about 50k miles to plug an automotive filter completely. 50,000 at 50 mph in a car is 1000 hours, and car spends lotsa time at 35, idling at stop lights, etc. there is NO WAY your boat filter can plug solid. (if it does you deserve to lose the engine!) so bypass better be unnecessary in boat.
