Put it in boat and was hiting 50mph I wanted faster so pulled it back out took motor back told the guy need more power he says I was around the 200 hp so we talked told me 250mag was 325 and stuff so I told him want more then that so he did the heads and put a cam in it and polished my air in take . Tells me now he 100% sure its min very min hp now is 350 say more like 375 to 400 but for his on sack says 350 for sure . Now speeds under 50mph I can feel the power it s has but yet still not past 50mph and marina told me gear ratio in foot so went 1.47 to a 1.32 not its only in the 40s mph only diff is I push less throttle but cant get out the hole and 21 prop I have bought 3 props this year 17 19 aluminum 21 23 stainless steel . Have tred them all.. I will be going to c the guy for the motor again to day ask for a specs on motor but I am pretty sure it fine I been thinking it might be air restriction in manifolds or mufflers . I have talked 2 like 4 mechanics and they all tell me diff one say I need . Avedaced timming . Cheak throttle cable carb opens all the way runing 94 oct have timming done at 40 50mph on water other says on trailer at 3000rpm . I just dnt know I thinking cuting out baffles in mufflers . Can andone give me a idea am about to sell boat amd get a camper lol.

I've seen this problem b4 once a long time ago. The problem was the guy was backing the boat in the ramp very deep and unhooking the trailor from his truck. Had nothing but problems... Terrible planning low speeds ect ect. Once it was suggested that he try and leave the trailor hooked to the truck and unhook the boat from the trailor all his run issues went away. I know it's an off the wall concept but at this point it's worth a shot.

I had this simaler issue, i upgraded twin screws on a 29 regal that ran 4.3 slant six, those huge ford pistons they put in then...anyway it was a fun restoration and i found a deal on brand new 305 mercs...boat was doing same after install, had all new everthing including correct drives...seems they issue was the fuel hose(the metal tube) was not wide enough inside gas tanks and fuel line was colappsing. Ever so slightly. We tried external gas supply and work fine. Also antisiphone ball vavle was issue too inside tank.

What's your fuel pressure? I just had problems with an electric Holley fuel pump that was mounted too high above the tank and was only getting 3psi and lower with throttle. Electric pumps have to be at tank level or below.

I had a similar problem. Couldnt even get enough speed to get it on plane. Then I realized I was still tied to the dock and the keys were in my truck.
