Pump for Royal Purple gear oil

Hey guys --

I've got a pump I've been using with the Mercury HPGL. But, I'm pretty sure it won't be tall enough to use with the Royal Purple gear oil bottle. What are you guys using to pump it into the drive?

Thanks

Your right it doesn't fit the threads on the Purple bottle either so good luck even trying to modify the pump. I just poured the Purple into an empty Merc bottle. I'm sure someone will whine about the two lube's mixing but they are the same viscosity and I even went as far as flushing a little royal purple in the Merc bottle first and dumping it in my used oil container.

Yea I thought about doing that too. Guess that's my option, I'll just clean it out real good first.

Ayuh,.... Just extend the tube on the bottom of the pump,.....

I use a converted 1 gallon steel garden sprayer,...
On the end of the hose, I put a ball-valve, a short piece of clear tubin', 'n a salvaged steel fittin' off a bottle pump like yer's,....

Search on "garden sprayer" here on OSO. Many folks, myself included have modded a run of the mill sprayer to pump oil up the drive. It works great.

4 quart Round Up chemical sprayer with the steel rotatable fitting from Mallory Marine #9-81002 (fits Merc Alpha/Bravo and i'm sure some other drives).

Make sure to get a sprayer where the trigger can lock 'on.' Easier and faster than one that doesn't.

FYI: most garden sprayer's have thin pick-ups. Only present a problem if the fluid is real cold. If the fluid is over 60F it will move semi-quickly. Over 70F and the thin pick up will be a non issue.

The plastic fitting from Quicksilver's pump kit sucks. IMHO.

Here's a pic of the mallory rotate able fitting:

I use a one gallon garden sprayer.Just put a threaded fitting on it that screws into the outdrive. Pump it up,pull the trigger, drink a beer and let it do the work. A lot easier then trying to pump the oil from the bottle..

I hadn't heard of the garden sprayer before. Bought one, modified it, then used it. What a piece of cake! Thanks guys
