Well my hinges pulled out the sunpad! Figured this was about to happen as I had just done my 25ol hatch also!

Enlisted my 9yr old son to help me get hatch off boat and start taking staples out.

Got everything apart, just need to get some starboard or marine 1/2" plywood to make all the pieces for the head rest, strips for vinyl and glass hinge wood back in.

that wood isn't that bad!! little bit of gorilla glue and put a couple of carriage bolts down thru the pad. it'll be fine!!

LOL.. Thats funny, I was surprised by how wet wood was inside the cavity for the hinges, even more so that the T nuts dissolved! I will put plenty of glass when I put it back together and it will last another 20 years!

Seems to happen on a lot of hatches. Once the water gets in there, it never gets out. In theory, the sunpad only has to het wet once and its all a matter of time from there! :-(

The outer perimeter and down the center ( where the hatch actuator mounts) are encapsulated
plywood......there's also strips that aren't encapsulated along the edges where the vinyl is
attached.


I had to fix mine, not due to rot but operator error and it wasn't that big of a deal

You could use coosa board, never have to worry about the rot.

Yep, you can see the encapsulated wood in the pic of the top of the hatch. Encapsulated wood with holes/t nuts in it. (holes for water to get in!!)

This one has more wood than my 25ol had, they have some framework type design inside each head rest too. Not sure what I will put back in, maybe just marine plywood (depending what I can find local) and just lay glass over all the wood! I did see a trick they do with the T nuts, they staple the edges so it will not push thru or turn.

Basically it has wood strips just to have a place for the vinyl to staple too and has some more wood for the sunpad vinyl to attach around the head rests. Head rests are actually separate units with piece of wood that slips underneath wood on the hatch and then 2 bolts hold it and vinyl all gets stapled.

Really not that bad of job, hardest part is just getting off and back on as you have to hold the sunpad straight UP to screw it down. I live on a small lake that seems to always have a breeze in my back yard when I DONT want it!..i.e putting boat cover on, etc! lol
