Slight noise in 454
I pulled out drive last week and still has slight noise, so I pulled the motor today I noticed the round rubber couple mounted to the back of the motor that the input shaft goes into looks like the rubber got some heat and slight melting... I'm wondering if that's is where the noise could be
Coming from?? Also the motor mounts on the hull looked like a 100 degree angle instead of a 90 is this regular or do I need replacing? Motor runs fine but I can still slight noise is starting 😁 |

A slight angle on the motor mounts ain't an issue, as they move about abit due to their design,... They're basically a pin, 'n socket, bedded in rubber,... Have ya inspected the ring gear, 'n starter bendix,..?? That's where noise comes from, when startin',.... Btw,..... What sorta noise are We talkin' 'bout,..??..?? |

Doesn't sound like a spun bairing bc it doesn't get loader when reved, I'm going to start on ground tomorrow, haven't ran in over a month, real light humming noise, but no vibration
. My dad didn't even notice it but I can tell something sounds off and like coming from ottom back, doesn't sound like valves |
Seemed like the aluminum was on the 1oo angle and even w nipple up one side seemed not to sit flat
|
If your motor mount pads have sagged that much , your probably way out of alignment , which will smoke a coupler and have things in a bind . If so , inspect gimble bearing , and use an alignment tool when re-assembling . Good luck!!!

Are the alum mount pads bent , (Need gusset welded on bottom of mount ) or are mounts pulling away from stringers ( bad stringers or no backing plates , just washers ) ???
|
Sounds like a Gimble bearing .

Decently seemed like aluminum mounts had slight bend, stringers look strong. I removed out drive first bc I was hoping that was noise, I then ran motor and noise is still there
|
once you took off the drive, the gimball bearing and coupler can't be the source of the noise. no shaft in either. has to be north of there. see if you can hang it on a hoist to land start it. then get a stethoscope (10 bucks ebay) and go around it listening for the source...
