GM should make freeze plugs out of paper mâché or PVC. I think I've actually seen three in my life time that actually suited their purpose. Lol

They are made to get the sand out of the block when they cast them. They are then Plugged. They are not made to pop out when a block freezez although many do and the block is not hurt. But if you look at were the are positioned in the block There is still plenty of water below them to freeze and crack the block.THAT is not there purpose. They just got called that.

where are you getting 10 cents a pound for scrap right now??!!!! It's 5.5 around here

If your spending money on your build those "freeze plugs " make a nice acess point to extract the fresh sand and silt that accumulates in the bottom of the block on a raw water app.

Had a couple blocks freeze up a few years back. Cracked above the lifter galleys and rnext to the freeze plugs on both sides. Blocks were junk but heads were fine.

1st post: i bought a NEGLECTED arriva for parts. If it wasnt for stupid people who cant take care of their boats, i would have to pay a lot more for parts. I got the motor out yesterday. Sides cracked so bad a 3 by 4 inch hunk of block is barely attached on both sides. Manifolds broke too.
