Having late 70's era wiring harness and the old style alternator I am replacing the alternators. I no longer have point distributors and have already replaced those with hei. Can I get away with just the one wire marine delco alternator or two wire? I've changed starters as well and went with the three post due to the hei also.
Any help would be great.
Tks
John

Depends, volt or amp gauge. Volt just comes off the ignition switch.
Gonna ck tomorrow and see what all wires go to current ones however will plan to dead end them unless there is any reason I shouldnt.

Most of those old motorola style were pretty gutless amp output wise . Reasonably reliable but you will see an average of 35 amps max output if you go upgrade the output prob want to upgrade the orange wire too
belt squeal becomes hard to control on a single v belt 2 bracket alt deal around 70 amps .

Getrdun, if you need an alternator I have 2 brand new 105 amp 1 wire marine alternators. I converted my Panther years ago and was going to convert my cruiser, but Crusader used a different alternator than Merc. I was just going to put them in the swap shop.

GM are not and should not be used. Two folks make HEI marine rated distributors - DUI and AAA MarineOriginally Posted by Bondo
