Trim tab (new install) help

My 32 restoration had Bennetts on installed on it and I am replacing with 280's however am painting the deck, sides and transom with ppg single stage. I would assume install tabs after paint. Or bolt up and bond to original gel coat. Only reason I ask is I notice how important the bonding is on the tabs as I've noticed how much material comes off with the tabs on used ones I see. I realize how much stress is on tabs and just wanna be certain. Id much rather install over new paint but thought I'd ck first.

When you say material comes off, do you mean the gel?

What are you using to seal them?

Ya the gel and in several circumstances I've seen fiberglass and gel. In regards to what Sealant I planned to use was either life seal or 5200. Would rather use the life seal in which case I need to remove I suppose. I'm up for suggestions.

I'd use 3M 4200. Same as 5200 with half the adhesive strength.

Tks griff. you don't see any issues over fresh paint then?
