Repower Carb to EFI questions

I have a 98 velocity that I bought with no engine harness or anything. a couple years ago I built a 454 and got a harness ten pin or something like that. Last year I bought a 502 that came complete, intake to pan was just pulled from a 38 Scarab, It seems to be 100% complete. The boat I have came with this engine stock so the stock boat harness should plug directly into it and it should provide power to everything?

So 1st ? is will my boat harness plug into this engine and work? (I can get pictures)

2nd ? I had a holley blue on boat to feed carbed engine. do I just remove that and plug the fuel line directly to filter housing or do I need a lift pump or something?

I have a thousand more ?s just need to get past these hurdles first. Ill get pics in a couple hrs.

lol I guess its a 96 ha ha

1. yes, plug the cannon plug from the boat to the plug on the engine
2. yes hook to water filter housing and the pump should be on the engine
3. Im not going to answer all thousands

holley blue needs pressure regulator.

If I am reading this right. You are going from a carbed 454 to a 502 EFI. A Holley blue will not work with EFI, you won't just need a regulator you will need 25 PSI more fuel pressure. If this is the case you have more than a thousand questions.

He didn't mention EFI.

Hopefully he mentions 1000 things before the 1000 questions ?

LOL, if I read the heading of the post "Repower Carb to EFI questions" I assume it was from carb to EFI.

His post needs more detail, if its a 502 mpi cool fuel, the fuel pump and regulator is built into it, if its complete as stated, install it and go boating

Even a VST 502mag would just be a matter of plugging the tank line into the fuel/water sep.

I would get rid of the VST system if this 502 is that app. If I recall 1996 model year went to cool fuel GEN II. Some of the parts to the VST are NLA as well. You can convert to a Gen II cool fuel system.

If your 502 is stock and you say complete what year and engine serial # is it ? this will determine the set up and parts used plus which ECM you have along with fuel pump(s).

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k2...ckracer/p3.jpg I guess it hard to see these wires are hanging off the back of the engine, they are on the port/ transom side of engine Picture # 3 where do these go or what do they go to?

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k2...ckracer/p1.jpg picture number 1 same here this connector is loose and not sure where it goes either. its located on the starboard/ transom side of the engine. its zip tied to a rubber hose that goes across the back of the engine that is cut on both sides. id love to know where that hose went as well.

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k2...ckracer/p2.jpg picture number 2 here is an additional pair of wires on the starboard/ transom side of the engine, red and black wires that appear to have been clipped. this is the hose mentioned above.

not to sure why they swapped pics around but whatever. I appreciate all the advice on this. I have hooked up harness but am unsure of where this stuff goes 0L352627 its faded but this is the serial number. this isnt the engine that came in my boat. my boat came with a 502 in 96. I bought it engine less and installed a carbed 454. I bought this engine from a guy on here doing a repower on his 38 scarab twin engine and Im pretty sure it was a 2k plus year model.
im goind to drink a beer as this post has taken me over an hour to post sorry if I missed anything. God bless.

the top picture looks like the drive reservoir connections, that will alarm on low oil leval

Mr Maine 04-30-2015 07:33 AM

The first looks like the low drive fluid alarm (to resovoir as already stated). Second look like mercathode to outdrive.

Ya, and the doofus at merc that designed it made it an NO switch. NC would have been fail-safe, but nooooo.
