Changing starter on scarab 29 with twin small blocks
Guys,
Just got a scarab 29 and starboard motor needs a starter. Has anyone done this? Can it be done without loosening the motor in that is there enough room. Haven't dove into it, thought I'd check the brain trust first. |
if you can lay on your side in front of the engines you can probably get it. otherwise taking off the exhaust above the starter is another option. i can see no reason why loosening the engine mounts would help unless the engine is coming out to do it. get one of the small ones instead of full size old school car starters. oh and welcome aboard!

Can't lie in front but the exhaust removal is the winner. Thanks a ton and am stoked to be here. Been a long time in the making

Are you sure it's not the solenoid?
|
I think so, it is intermittent and a grinding noise instead of turning the gear. In the past in a car it's always been the starter.

if its grinding make sure you ck the flywheel all the way around
