Thermostats in 502 blowers
New boat has 502's with B&M 174's and super chillers. Upon further inspection neither engine has a thermostat in it, or a restricter. Neither engine built any temperature when out for a run last weekend (very cold lake water)
Should i have thermostats or a plate to reduce the flow rate?? |
NO.some will disagree but i like to keep the heads as cool as i can to reduce the chance of detonation.

Do you feel the same on a NA motor? Reason I ask is moving from TN and running in the river to Texas lakes, I'm considering getting rid of my stats again. Iron heads on my 555s. Last year without them I had trouble building heat and oil temps. After going thru the motors this winter I reinstalled them thinking I'd be in TN but a job change brought me home to TX. Input, thoughts?

I had no issues building oil temp (i run oil thermostats) but i never build any water temp at all.

Just because the water exiting the engine has no temperature does not mean that the metal surface area in the engine is being cooked at all.

Procharged efi 509's no stats. All is good after three years. Mine in warmer lake temps and running hard will get up to 115
