Wind deflectors

Fabricated some wind deflectors for the Checkmate Convincor. The version pictured are 3" tall. I have another set that is 4 3/4" tall. What do you guys think? I actually think they look pretty good on the boat.

I think you will see very little wind difference with them at the angle they are at. They need to be more vertical to make a difference.

If you can run wide open with a hat on bill facing forward, they'll pass... No bugs to the face at night is another good benchmark.

I need to figure out a nice way to make them for my wind screen. You thought your windshield was useless....ha! My problem is I can't find a mount/hinge that will work because the way the backside of the fairing is angled. I wanted them to fold down below the fairing so my cover will still fit. Thinking now I may just have to bite the bullet and mount them to the top and have pockets sewn in my cover to fit.

Jet Boat wind deflector

a little pricey,i just mounted spring clamps to to the plexiglass to clamp to my wind screen

I like them, I think they look good.

How did you make them?

Thanks, The pictures make them look like they are angled back quite a bit, but I actually put a 37 degree bend on them from where they mount to the windshield. I may have to fine tune them after a trail run.I did make a couple sets of deflectors while I was at it in case these ones dont work out.
One of my concerns is how much force is transferred to the winshield frame at 80+ mph with a big chunk of plastic sticking way up there

The deflectors I router cut out of 1/4" polycarbonate then bent the angle on a hydraulic brake.

The mounting points are 1/4-20 ss nuts welded onto a 1" x 2" x 1/8" piece of ss flat stock. I then affixed them to the windshield with VHB "Very High Bond" tape.

I need to do something like that on mine. Fountain used to make the clear wind deflectors for my fairing, not sure if still avail from them. I know that Mike Tkach has it on his 38 fever , and its amazing. Running 80mph in his boat you can almost wear a ball cap, my boat at 80mph, its flat out ridiculous wind. Running at night on lake michigan can be a killer with the bugs too. :frog:

The wind on mine is ridiculous also. Let me know if I can be of any help on the Fountain.

I did very similar thing shortly after I bought my 28 challenger. Did a little experimenting with what I needed for size, angle etc and ended up with white acrylic that I cut at apprx 8" x 22" then heated with a heat gun to achieve proper angle. They worked great. That wind noise can be terrible.

They look awesome but I agree they aren't going to deflect anything, IMO.

I made a rough looking set that had a lot more forward angle and were taller and they barely helped anything. Think for long trips im gonna bring some cheap foam ear plugs.

You might laugh, but the best thing to use to run at night is some nice clear safety glasses. They keep the wind out of your eyes ( keeps them from watering ) and also keep the bugs from splattering all around your eye region lol.

Something like this is what I have, works great. Might look goofy but who cares, I can see.

Good luck with yours hadley

Finally had a chance to test out the deflectors. I like the height. I can actually hear my motor now without having to duck down behind the windshield. I do need to work on the mounting though. I have them rigid mounted to the winshield frame with 1/4-20 bolts into weld nuts on backer plates that I VHB taped to the frame. The backer plates need to be larger to give VHB tape enough surface area to bond securely.

For safety I would like mine to fold also. That way if you stuff the bow you arent taking the defector to the face

For running at night and dodging river buoys, I throw on a pair of hideous lab safety goggles. They work absolutely perfect but I feel like Steve Erkel wearing them so they only come out in the dark haha.
