Polishing stainless
Want to Get myself set up to polish stainless specificly propellers. What would be the best materials and buffer to buy?
Good luck. Stainless is very hard. I tried polishing some exhaust pipes once. Not worth my time. Are you thinking of doing this for your own stuff?
I polished some old stained switchable mufflers up in a hurry with a wheel on a cordless drill and some 3M Finesse-It Rubbing/Cut compound. I was impressed with how well it worked. Any other auto store metal polish wont do hardly anything to SS.
From what I was told (by a local prop guy) Satin finish props perform better than polished.
Look up the Eastwood company, plenty of buffing machines and compounds to choose from
I do all my polishing, both stainless and aluminum, the old fashion way. Wet and dry 800, 1000, 1500, 2000, 3000 sand at alternating 90* . Finish up with polish.

rouge polishing compounds and good buffing wheels.

I use NOXON7 on my stainless stuff....GREAT on props if you get a little surface rust, etc....

Buffing wheel I bought at Eastwood, polishing rouge, cheap chineese 8" bench grinder I bought used at Swap o Rama for 10$ 15 years ago
finished off with a foam pad on my Milwaukee angle grinder. I polished the stainless throttle and shifters for my Magnum. I've done a lot of aluminum as well, starting with 800 grit and working my way to 3000 I bead blasted them first. Finished off with 3M Finesse it, and sealed with Zoopseal http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x...psodqylwoy.jpg http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x...pskoatzkav.jpg http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x...psmsicboj2.jpg |
