Wouldn`t that make the boat quite a bit harder to sell later?

Fair point but since it currently has very little interior and I wouldn't want to use any of it as it's very dirty, I think this will make it much nicer being cleaner and nicer while keeping the costs down. I have very little into this boat and want to keep it into the bottom end of the market so if/when we go to sell it, it will be nicer than we bought it but not overpriced for a 94 26' Profile.

I like the idea but I'd keep the head. If you ever did want to overnight you'd just need a roll of foam padding and a bag of sheets, blankets and pillows.

Good idea. While it doesn't have a head, it does have a porti-potty that I will keep. My thoughts are to make it clean and well lit. It would be easy to throw some sleeping bags in there and overnight if we wanted to. Right now, the interior down there isn't really clean and complete. I think, a nice bright freshly painted and lit cabin will work better for our needs.

Thanks again for all of you for your thoughts, ideas and suggestions. I genuinely appreciate all of them. These are not our boat but gives an idea of what I have bouncing around in my mind.

I tried to do it. It was way too much work and I eventually went back to glue on carpet. Mine was biax mat and after I got all the old glue off I did not want to try to fill and sand and sand and sand.

I did manage to get all of the old glue off. 3M makes an adhesive remover that works pretty good. It comes in a red can in some states, some states you can only get the new formula. Brush it on, leave it sit, and then scrub off the old glue with a grill brush.

The Donzi 22 Classic has the entire front blocked off with only a small storage bin. I needed storage space so this is what I did. I occasionally overnight in it at PIB and have a foam roll cut to fit and a nylon duffel bag with sheets, blankets and pillows. It's very cozy with a girl and toilets and showers are on the dock. All carpet in the boat snaps in. This mod added 15 pounds to the weight but if I pull out the front carpet I am under original weight.

even in the engine rooms I did I used thinner to wipe down glue pellets and sanded, did not try to smooth out, when painted looked fine..heres a shot, the sides were carpeted, also another trick I used, on the floor area's, on the last coat of paint I sprinkled the paint flakes used for garage floors, looks great, makes more non-skid and hides the hell out of foot prints/dirt/etc between clean ups..

That looks really nice! If I find that the glass is really rough and can't be painted, I definitely do something like that as like you, I want the storage/utility aspect more than luxury lounging that many boats have.

That's a great tip! I was concerned with the footprints and that paint flakes would really help hide that.

I'm not afraid of sanding as we've done a number of boats where we've pulled the carpet and glue out and laid carbon fiber down. It's a ton of work but the results I think are exceptional

Sorry, I missed your post. My hopes are that it wont be too rough under the carpet but I'll definately post up regardless so we can all learn from my mistakes. ;-)

If it is rough another idea is you could lay down a layer of veil mat or if its really bad some 3/4 CSM and then the veil mat, and then sand and gel over that.

Nice work on the carbon, that looks awesome.

That's a good idea. We've used veil over balsa core and it looks great. Hopefully, it won't be that rough but I'll know soon enough once this crappy Washington weather dries out some. :-)

Thanks for the kind words on the carbon. I'm am more of the grunt labor and my son is the finish guy. Getting the weave to lay and stay straight would push my patience factor thru the roof.
