Made a call yesterday and located a piece of hollow structural steel, plus assorted new cut off scraps to fabricate mounting plates. Going for coffee, while the sun is rising along with the outside temperature. Then let the games begin.

Mostly 350 to 500 lbs, occasionally more. This unit is overkill for those weights. I want to attach a 1/2 ton CM Cyclone chain hoist, but I just checked my stock and see a NIB 1/4 ton Cyclone and a NIB 1 ton Cyclone and a NIB 1 ton CM Lodestar. It's like my lottery numbers, close, but not the right ones. To answer your question a little more in depth, this length HSS has a deflection of .358" @ 1000 lbs. I could have gotten 3 x 4 .250 wall for the same price $0. It has a deflection of .185" @ 1000 lbs but that's like shooting a rabbit with a 416 Rigby, only the ears are left. |
yes it is,i missed that.i have a 2 by 2 square stock .250 thick in the shop i used to lift engines with.3 by 3 will work.

Have some free time, it's sunny & 46 degrees. Let's clean this unit up. Also found in stock 2 more NIB 1 ton Cyclone chain hoists, Ebay hoist sale-athon soon. LOL!

Look on craigslist for a pneumatic chain hoist sometimes $125 they work great.

Ok, all cleaned up, wiped down, ready for primer and paint. Rustoleum combines them. Here we go!

I can't buy it from him, but he will cut cards for it against cash. These old Ironworkers, gotta love them. |

Paint is finished/curing. Meanwhile I have a used/clean/small CM hoist to utilize while I pursue a 1/2 ton Cyclone. Hopefully Sunday I can mount the crane in place. So far this project has cost $16.00/paint.

Cm Cyclone arrived, as advertised, unused, laying around, named scratched up.
Checked the entire Hoistaloy load chain for signs of damage, use/abuse. None found. Checked random links for stretch, none found. Slight surface rust on load chain. Load chain hook is unused. Endless chain has some light surface rust. Checked the case for cracks, none found, checked machine screws for signs of tampering, none found. Checked top hook, no use. I like this hoist, let's help it out a little. |
Did you give any thoughts in using a rolling trolley on the top cross rail to attach the hoist in lieu of a fixed positions tab ? It would make alignments (right to left) a little easier if/when needed.

Bump for Ed!
Was really curious what he was making too, dammit! |
