Making stuff is fun
Thought I'd post some of my upgrades to my boat that I did this spring.
First off, I added a Vessel View 7 in place of the stock head unit, so I was left with the dilemma of what to do for a stereo. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...psviuxqac2.jpg I ended up going with a Fusion black box unit with their wired remote. I have zero use for the compass on the helm, so I figured I'd mount the remote there. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...pshwuuggi1.jpg I am an engineer by trade, so I whipped up a solid model of the remote mount, that fits the compass location and uses the same screw holes. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...pskaimailu.png I have a good friend with a 3D printer, and he printed it for me from white ABS plastic. Of course we had to add the Sunsation logo :D http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps1udfg4vk.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...psrp1grwfu.jpg I think it turned out alright. I also replaced the broken Livorsi clock with a dual 4.2 amp USB outlet, and reused the painted/anodized bezels. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...pswg18683g.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...pswyst0n7u.jpg Next we turn to the back of the boat. I am not sure if my rub rail shrunk or what, but the factory cheezy plastic cover came nowhere near close to covering the rub rail gap any longer. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...psd1s9hmpa.jpg I decided to make some out of stainless pipe. Chamfered them in the lathe, cut them in half, then drilled the hole, countersunk it. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps109qinza.jpg Then powdercoated it. Much better than the piece of PVC or whatever the used from the factory. Made one for each side. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...psmeeliyhy.jpg Lastly, I've been wanting to add a spare tire carrier to my painted aluminum Myco. Again, I started out on the computer, figuring out my clearances, angles, etc. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...psmq1srmyz.jpg Drilled the bolt pattern on the mill http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...psghcxuoaa.jpg Welded it all together. Really had to pour the coals to it for this 1/4" aluminum. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps4bn2xbag.jpg Powdercoated it. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...psovjhkx0i.jpg Done. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...psu2vwadko.jpg |

Looks great !!

Very Nice!!!! I'm also an Engineer/Fabricator by trade I totally get building your own stuff, although I don't have access to some of your toys. I'd love to get my hands on a 3-D printer!!!

Awesome work!
Buying my 3D printer is the best money I have spent in a long time! I have made so many parts for the boat it's not even funny. If designed correctly there is no reason why ABS won't work just as well as aluminum! I do have to say that my next toy will be a mini desktop CNC for those times I do need something out of aluminum! |
Noice!
