Mercruiser Horizon MPI GEN VI Lifters

I'm having trouble finding an aftermarket set of lifters for my 454. The Mercruiser number is 850466T for my lifters. I have found lots of 850467 lifters available but none that match my part number exact. Does anyone know what the difference is? Or have a good source form the correct ones?

Thanks

Edit in: See posts below this one as there are two different lifters used between the regular 454, and the Mag 454/502's.

Original post:The Merc black motors Gen VI 454 uses GM BBC Hydraulic roller lifters.
I believe the following is correct part #. Chevrolet Performance 12371056. This is the lifter kit, not individual, as the kit will be cheaper. Prices range from $305 to $400 online.

Most cam companies offer aftermarket replacements. Do you need aftermarket lifters ?

I do not need aftermarket. OEM will be fine. My concern is that Mercruiser lists a non standard lifter for my engine. I was hoping to find them cheaper from an engine parts supplier but I am having trouble crossing the part number.

Here is the one for my serial number:

Here is the one that I see commonly available:

According to the Quicksilver Catalog, See here: http://www.marineengine.com/parts/me...alog-00985.htm

850466T Roller lifter Fits MCM/MIE 454 Mag, 502 Mag & 8.2L (Gen VI)

So, we discussed the following GM lifter the other week on another thread as the GM# is listed for the ZZ572 and we found also for GM's 8.1 also. So, digging for more info on this this morning I found also listed for the GM 1996+ 454 (7.4L);

GM#17120060 which is the same as ACDelco #HL121

Click below and you'll see the HL121 is used by GM on the 1996+ GEN VI 454 (7.4L) GM Trucks and by GM on the 2001+ 496 (8.1L) GM Trucks

http://parts-catalog.acdelco.com/cat...&parttype=2541

So, there you go, way cheaper than from Merc and the same lifter. The sites I checked are $30-$35 a lifter for the GM# / AcDelco # and around $100 for same lifter thru Mercruiser.

OK, so the GM Performance Kit (above in quotes on this post) #12371056 uses GM Performance Lifters #17120061.

For single service replacement use part numbers above.

They are listed for 1996+ Gen VI 454 (7.4L) and GenVI 502 (8.2L) GM Performance Crate Engines.
I found notes on this lifter that states "These lifters allow more oil to the rocker arms than the late-model truck roller lifters."

As my note, the Mercruiser Magnum 454 (7.4) and 502's (8.2L) uses the same shortblock (and typically heads and some other etc) as GM Performance's 454 and 502's.

So, wow, I think I broke the GEN VI lifter code between Merc, GM, ACDelco, and GM Performance. LOL, but thank you! This was bugging me since that thread a few weeks ago and you forced me to continue. Now, to stick this in my quazilion saved pages of notes in my computer where maybe I can find it easily again ? Doh !

That's great, thanks! The 17120061 looks like the one. More oil sounds good to me...

The kit may be cheaper than the indvidual. Ck on that.

The MAG's come with a larger oil pan too, 8 quarts,soI'm not sure to be honest if the higher flow oil one's will be an issue with a smaller pan that you have ?

When I get a chance,I'm gonna clean up all this lifter info, plus the Mercury Racing Motors' ones (Crane) and start a thread so it will be more easily referenced.

I here you. Did you see the 500EFI thread ? Figured them damn things out at the sametime as this one.

Never been so tired figuring out parts for someone I don't know. This lifter thing took about 10 open screens, mad searching and memorizing, with a little bit of Dr Cluzo (sp?) Hah !

I said I'llclean it up and make a new thread on this subect tonight....I thing I'm too tired. LOL.
