Glastron Carlson CVX 16 Rebuild Thread
Spent a couple weekends this summer at my girlfriends cottage on Lake of Bats and we decided it would be fun (maybe?) to rebuild the boat for summer 2017. From what I can tell its an early 80s CVX 16 with a newer (mid 90s) 135 Mercury Blackmax. The plan is...

1. Have the motor sent to mechanic for a good tune up
2. Replaced the floor and whatever else is rotten
3. Wet sand a polish the hull
4. Replace interior and carpet
5. Refurb the dash and gauges
6. Install a stereo
7. Rip up the lake!!

This is boat porn for me. One of my favorite ski boats from the era. Always wanted one but never had enough cash when one came on the market. Watching the thread closely, hope we get lots of pics.....:pray:

I'm excited! I've never done anything like this so it should be good! There is a mechanic that is going to fix the outboard. We were running premix because the oil injection broke. It could also use a new set up plugs and wires and a good tune up. The floor is being done by some local guy so we should have it back in a couple of weeks. There was a ski pylon installed at some point and someone just drilled into the floor without sealing the holes so it was all rotted.

Bought one new in 1979. Had 115 merc with power trim. Had for 12 yrs. Used 19" ss. for skiing and 21 ss for top end which was 52. Motor was raised 2 " on transom. Did not know about jack plates back then. Should have kept it.

I had a friend growing up that had a GT 160 with a 135 and his was a mid 60s boat, so I'm thinking this one should be right in that neighbourhood. It's actually the perfect boat for this lake, always glass calm and tons of little bays to zig in and out of.

I have one to as many many years ago it was a trade in for a new boat and I kept it. Mine has a 115 Evinrude. Kind of wished I had the I/O version. Mine is a 1982 or 1983. The HIN number will tell you want year it is. I was going to sell mine but now seeing this post I think I will keep it. Just sits in storage collecting dust.

You are going to be super happy with that boat when it is done. That is the perfect motor for it as well. Make sure you are 100% pleased with the new floor before it's carpeted over, I made that mistake once. Good luck!
