502 Mag Mpi freshen up cost

Without to deep of a discussion anyone have an idea what part prices cost to freshen up a 502? My buddies Baja is starting to burn oil. Approx a quart an hour. Don't know conditions of cylinders.

Did it start this all at once?
Better check the oil cooler

He seems to think it just started this year. Had a pro charger a few years back but wifey made him sell it.

Would it be an internal or external leak? Don't see oil in the bilge. And if it was internal I would expect to see some sort of water in the oil?

Mine busted on a trip back from Destin, started using a quart every 25 mile
Transom would have oil on it if tru-hull exhaust and would notice an oil sheen if tru-hub
On mine I didn't see any indication of water in the oil but when I pulled the pan it was getting some water in

I'm doing a little more than just freshening it up but can tell this
Rings, rod brgs, main brgs, cam brgs, oil pump, screen, all gaskets, timing set, head bolts, rod bolts and main bolts will run you around $1100.00
Plus machine work and any other upgrades you decide to do while it's apart

Could be anywhere from a 1000for parts to do it yourself to well over 5000, rings, rods, brgs arent much, valve springs , valve guides, new valves, seats, cam, lifters, rocker arms, adjustable rocker studs/nuts, pushrods, boring and decking block, balancing, turning crank, flowing injectors, resizing rods, rod bolts, plus parts can get expensive

Top end (with injector cleaning/flow testing) on my 502 mpi in my old boat, (me doing the labor besides head / machine shop work), was $1150, 2 years ago

But I Scored a sweet deal in the swap shop on new head gaskets for pennies on the dollar.

Things can snowball real fast if machine work needs to be done or new pistons are needed with a bigger bore or he gets an itch for more power. I have 2k in parts easy on a build with new pistons and valve train but I am building with high end parts. Good luck with what he finds.

I'd have to pull my paperwork but it was in the $5K range for a .030 overbore, new forged pistons/rods/rod bolts, rings, bearings, timing chain, gasket kit, heads decked, 3 angle valve job, new springs and seals, injectors cleaned, new water pump, new serpentine belt, new wires and plugs on a 496 MAG. Reused existing cam and lifters. That included break-in and 3 pulls on the dyno.
