Any "How-To" Rebuild B1 Drive Trim Pump Out There?
 

I searched here and didn't find one. I'm looking for a how-to on rebuilding the drive trim pump of a mid 90's B1 (OF813384) using the Mercruiser kit #18545A1. Just went to the boat after 10 days and the SB drive has sagged ~3" in comparison with the port.

It is likely the drive rams and not the pump. Swap rams from each side and see.

If its the pump, I'd just buy one complete of ebay.

Agree in most cases its the cylinders, rebuilding them is cheap and easy.

On my old '93 bravo boat one drive would bleed down. I rebuilt the pump and it solved my problem, and created another. The rebuild kit had updated valves so it would trim faster than the other side. No biggy, just rebuilt other side.

Wouldn't I be seeing fluid on the exterior of the rams if they were leaking or is it an internal leak? I have zero fluid on the exterior.

I've found the rebuild kits for the pump for $60, the ebay pumps are $300.

Definitely verify good cylinders 1st. I just did the same thing in the fall and assumed it was a pump, and after a lot of grief, a 20 minute cylinder rebuild fixed the problem.

Do you happen to know the cap size at the hydraulic manifold on the gimble? Like to have them before I begin the cylinder test first.

Also did you rebuild the pump yourself and did you happen to find instructions to do so somewhere?

I just bought the rebuild kits for the RAMS from CP Performance for 14.99. They are a supporting vendor and they arrived in a couple days. Used a PIPE wrench to pull the ends cap off and repainted when all was said and done. Rebuild time is about 10 minutes. Clean-up and paint time is up to you!! There are some YouTube videos on rebuilding them but used compressed air to get the back stopper out so that you can put the new O-Ring on that, when you unbolt the spring watch out for the small ball bearings so they don't fall out, and be sure to put the O-Ring back in under the bolt on the back of the rod.

Rams can definitely fail with no outward signs.
